Julie Biuso says - Summer's here

Hidey Hi! I hope your Christmas break was fantastic, and that the year has got off to a real buzz.

While the weather has been patchy at times it hasn't stopped things growing, and summer produce like sweet corn, eggplants and zucchini is plentiful and selling at bargain prices.  Peaches, nectarines and plums are in abundance and it's time to include them in desserts, breakfasts, brunches, chutneys and jams.

Hot sticky weather – you know, after a lengthy downpour, the humidity rises up like a mist making you feel clammy – is par for the course, but nothing that a slab or two of chilled watermelon can't ease. It's the kind of weather when you need foods that have a zesty element, a bite of chilli, a bit of crunch and juice. Look no further than Hot & Sour Pork.  And that watermelon? Give it a rev up with a squeeze of lime, a squeeze of juice from freshly grated ginger and a sprinkle of chilli powder – an invigorating summer thirst quencher or palate cleanser at any time.
