Michael Cooper has just announced his Best White Wine Buy of the Year and Best Red Wine Buy of the Year awards, a highlight of his annual, best-selling Buyer’s Guide to New Zealand Wines, now in its 22nd edition.
Michael Cooper’s Buyer’s Guide to New Zealand Wines 2014 (which goes on sale today, RRP $39.99), is essential reading for those who want objective information on the much-hyped 2013 vintage. With totally independent, unbiased ratings and tasting notes on over 3,000 New Zealand wines, the book is used by thousands of wine consumers and wine professionals around the world.
This year’s Best White Wine Buy of the Year is Main Divide Waipara Valley Pinot Gris 2012, from Pegasus Bay. It retails around $19.95, and Cooper describes this vintage as the best yet. A delicious mouthful, it offers wonderful value, he says.
Petit Clos by Clos Henri Marlborough Pinot Noir 2012 has scooped the Best Red Wine Buy of the Year award. Says Cooper: ‘Most four-star pinot noirs sell in the $30-$40 range. Petit Clos by Clos Henri Marlborough Pinot Noir 2012, by contrast, is an excellent, highly satisfying red, full of personality, which sells for under $25.’
Michael Cooper’s Buyer’s Guide to New Zealand Wines 2014 goes on sale today, Tuesday November 19, and the book’s contents will also be published online at www.michaelcooper.co.nz
